I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm running XP SP2 on an HP. One day I got a
blue screen and it shut down before I could read it. I restarted it in safe
mode and cleaned it up as much as i could and ran my spyware/adware &
antivirus but that didn't fix it. then i restored it to an earlier
functioning point. then i took all my unnessecary peripherals out (usb ports,
modem, dsl, firewire, audio, & additional video stuff) and tried starting it
bare bones. so then i did a system recovery. that didn't work. then i got a
new power supply and tried that... no luck. so now i'm stuck with a computer
than 10-15 seconds after startup, it goes into a hibernate-ish mode. oh...
also, i got into the setup at startup and checked the cpu temp and it's at 30
degrees celcius and everything seems to be running normal and nothing sounds
wrong.

what could it be?

Bad motherboard, bad processor, overheating. It could be any of those
things or a combination. Do systematic troubleshooting or take it to a
computer repair shop for diagnostics (not a BigComputerStore/GeekSquad
type of place).
