I'm going to presume that you've already tried
uninstalling and reinstalling Word. If so, then based on
experience, I'd say you've likely got virus and/or spyware
infections, and/or your OS is otherwise corrupted.

"Not Responding" isn't really an accurate description. What that
actually means is, the program hasn't come back to the are of
memory I'm watching in the last, usually, 20 seconds (it's
adjustable). The reason I say that:

What happens if you wait, say, five minutes? You might get an
error message that will explain what's gone wrong. Worth a try.
Don't bother with more than about ten minutes - it's pretty
surely locked if nothing's hapened in about 5 minutes or a c/c
break.

Are you getting any macro virus warnings? Unless you turned them
off, that would be indicative. Another possibility is malware or
spyware - have you tried anything like adaware or spybot? You do
have up to date antivirus protection, right?

FWIW,

Rob

Possibly this is a corrupt printer driver, an out-of-date graphics driver or
a problem with the Spelling/Grammar checker. First open Word and go to
Tools, Language, Set Language and check the box 'do not check spelling or
grammar'. Then go to Tools, Options Spelling and Grammar tab and clear the
check boxes for the While you Type options. Close Word. Go to your temp
folder (usually Documents and Settings, Username, Local Settings, Temp):
with all applications closed, this folder should be empty. Delete everything
that has been abandoned in there (you may need to reboot to do this).

Now open Word and test again.
