computer freeze at startup

hi - i had nod32 installed before the computer went wrong. i use
killdisk to wipe the harddrive and then reinstalled xp, then
defragged the drive with perfectdisk

now i use avast home, as i thought that may have been the trouble.

i dont know if this has any relevance, but when i go to my computer th
cdrom and dvd dont display the label information, could it be somethin
wrong there perhaps
