Hi Everyone

When i power on the computer it gives me a black screen but the green
power light is on and the hard drive light as well, fans are working but no
beep which computer usually gives when it starts. It stays this way for about
20 seconds then it start up again normally as if i just powered it.I checked
monitor cable and everything seems ok.A few days ago i installed new RAM.Is
it possible i have a faulty RAM or is it a power supply problem.I would very
much appreciate your help.

i have a gigabyte intel 865 PE motherboard,FSB 800
2 G DDR RAM, Pentium 4, CPU 3.0, APG 8x

It'd be easier and quicker to remove the new RAM and find out if that makes
any difference instead of asking us if the new RAM is faulty.

This is a Windows newsgroup. Your post is full of hardware words: RAM,
motherboard, CPU etc. etc. Wouldn't it be better to ask the hardware experts
in a hardware newsgroup? Or if this sounds too difficult, why not mention
the word "Windows" once every so often?

Disconnect all add-on cards, drives, etc...

If you have 4 sticks of memory, remote a single PAIR.

With only the video card and limited memory, nothing else, try and turn
it on.

If that fails, swap the memory back.

If that fails, get a new PSU.

Putting the wrong type of memory in your computer will cause headaches. If
you use mixed memory configuration this too will cause trouble. Don't mix
DDR with DDR2 or PC with PC2 type memory.

By any chance, did the new 1GB DDR module come from Ebay ?

They sell "high density" 1GB DDR modules on Ebay, which
should be avoided. A branded RAM (Kingston/Crucial/Corsair etc)
will be low density. High density is made on Ebay, because
they get the chips for a few bucks less. But the product
is no bargain, for the trouble it causes.
