Just recently, my new camera, a Kodas Easy Share 1485 IS, broke and was
replaced, same model. Software intact, I conntected it to my computer. I
was always able to see it automatically via My Computer when connected and
turned on. Well, now I can only view it via the software Kodak gives you, it
is NOT recognized in My Computer. The computer makes that bell sound and
said the new device was properly installed and ready to use, but it doesn't
appear. It is a pain in the neck (and other body parts) to use their
software. The old camera, before it stopped opening its lens and was shipped
back, was recognized via the same software. I even tried to update/repair
the software but to no avail. When I went to use the camera wizard, there
are only three choices to pick and none of those three are mine. I inserted
my disk but can't locate any setup info on it to use with the wizard.

I am running Windows XP Home SP2. Any suggestions to get my computer to
show me my camera again, like before it was replaced? Should be no different
now. Same camera, same software, nothing new except the actual camera
itself. And you CAN view the photos taken via Kodak's program only.

Not sure if this will apply to your case or not.

I have a Kodak camera that came bundled with Kodak EasyShare software.

With EasyShare installed but not activated, if I plug my camera directly to
the USB cable/port the camera is recognized as a Hard Disk Drive(F: in my
case)and not as a "Device with removable storage" and applications such as
Digital Image Pro do not see it as a "device" for imports.

With EasyShare uninstalled, Windows recognizes the camera under "Cameras or
Scanners" and any application can import from it.

My ultimate solution was to remove all EasyShare software and get a Card
reader for downloading camera pictures to a folder or application of my
choice.

Thanks for your input, but I'm not quite sure I'm following it. I did try
uninstalling, reinstalling, turning the camera on/off during all these
phases. I is recognized under a USB Root Hub as a Kodak camera, but it won't
show up in My Computer as ANY DRIVE under any of these conditions, yet the
old camera which is identical and this one replaced did. So in essence, if I
crash this computer and don't have the disc for the EZ Share software, or if
I wanted to use another image editing program, I'm out of luck. It makes the
noise, the ding-ding, that it is connected, yet it won't show up in my
computer ANYWHERE. Kind of strange. I think it's going to be something
simple because I've done all the complex suggestions, but so far not good.

I can't say why your first camera showed up and the replacement will not.

I would try an uninstall of the ES software and see what you get in My
Computer when you plug the camera directly into USB port and turn it on.

FINALLY, Kodak solved the problem. I had to go to my Device Manager, right
click under the USB Root Hub that said Kodak Digital Camera and choose to
update the driver. But instead of allowing it to choose what driver to
install for me, I had to choose from the list of TWO choices and pick Digital
Still Camera. Lo and behold, it's now seen in My Computer and it working.
So all's well that ends well. Thank you for your effort.

You do not say what version of Easy Share software you are using.

You might find your answer at the knowledge centre under questions
frequently asked. You have to scroll almost until the end to see the
questions and answer.
