Computer doesn't recognize SD card

I recently purchased a Kingston 2GB SD card. However, when I insert
it into my laptop, the computer doesn't do anything. I believe the
proper effect would be to bring up a new drive, like when a USB memory
stick is inserted. However, this does not happen, and even the "found
new hardware" wizard doesn't run. Looking around online, I may have
outdated or inadequate drivers (though my computer is less than two
years old), but the Kingston site offers little to no help with that
sort of thing. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to
solve it?

I am running Windows XP Professional. I have 1GB of RAM, and a 1.86
gHz Pentium processor.

Some USB-SD card readers only support 1GB and smaller SD cards. Get the
exact model number, then check with the vendor of the card reader; you
may be able to fix the problem with an updated driver.
