Just a queery, my computer doesnt recognise that it has a
CDrom drive - therefore wont play CDs of any sort. Dell
seem to think the problem is with the operating system
(XP). However I thought that if something was wrong with
the operating system then I wouldnt be able to do
anything atall?

Anyone know a way of solving my problem, or wether I do
need to re-install XP, which will cost a bomb!

Well 2 things that you can try.
1. Replace it, maybe it's defective

You may have to configure the IDE controller to accept CD-
ROM drives in your BIOS.
