Computer Does Not Recognize CD in the CDrom

I run XP, a Mitsumi DVD-CD RW cdrom. When I put in a cd
in the cdrom the computer does not recognize the cdrom.

The only way is to shutdown and reboot, then it reads the
cd just fine.

Rather experating to have to reboot for each cd I put in
there.

Is there a fix?
