Hi...
I got my laptop in July. It's an HP Pavilion dv9429us running Vista
Premium w/2GB of RAM. Tonight while playing a game on Pogo it locked up. I
got a sound loop type thing (it sounded like a stuck record). I rebooted and
all was fine, went back and played the game for a bit and the same thing
happend again, only this time I also got a BSOD that said "a clock interrupt
was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time
interval". Can someone explain in plain English what this means and what,
if anything I need to fix? I haven't changed or installed anything new, I
always use it on a hard surface, and I don't use it for games (except for
Pogo). This has never happened before and the only thing new was the game I
was playing-it was one I hadn't played before. Help!

Are you running 32bit or 64 bit Vista?

I've done some of your homework for you at the HP site and went through 18
pages for that error and found nothing. However, a Google search reviled
several hits and two that pops out were Overclocking your processor and/or
one part of the core could be going bad.

Do a Google search for the following and include the quotes for...

"a clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the
allocated time interval"

Read through some of the hits and you might find something to help you out.

32bit and no overclocking here. I wouldn't know how! Is it really possible
that the processor in a 5 month old laptop could go bad? I sure hope not! I
looked through the HP site myself and Google. I posted here to try and get
some plain english answers. Is it possible for a processor to overclock
itself? I checked the error log Vista created and it said it was caused by
the video card? I was playing a game on Pogo and had a video playing at the
same time so maybe the video card got overloaded?

Hi Sue,

Yes it is possible for a processor to go bad in six months, but I doubt that
is your problem given the Error Log you quoted. Now as for the Video Card is
another scenario. This all may be some kind of quirk between your playing
Pogo and playing video at the same time. BTW you didn't mention this in your
first post.

Try the Pogo game again and this time have nothing else playing, does it
give this error now?

Thank you for the help. I'll try that. It's been 4hrs and everything is
stable. I did try playing the game again and no problems, but I only played
for a few minutes. I also contacted HP tech support as this laptop is still
under warranty. I am not rough with my laptop- it stays on my desk 99% and
has only left the house once (in a well padded laptop case). I'm sure it
wasn't caused by user abuse! :-) It never happened before tonight and
hopefully won't again. :-) I will keep you posted!

Sorry about that. I didn't check the log until after I posted! I tried the
Pogo game and all seemed fine for the few minutes I played. I imagine if the
problem had been caused by a failing processor or motherboard it would have
been noted in the log, right?

You never know Sue. Frankie Boy spends most of his time in a well padded
room. When his mom lets him out, he shows up here and suffers a BSOD**. Of
course, he's going to stalk this posting and utter some more of his
