Hi everyone,
I have what I think is a pretty decent machine. Here are
the basic specs:
Brand: Dell Dimension 8250
Processor: P-IV 2.4 Ghz
Ram: 1 Gig
OS: W2k Pro
Video: 2 NVidia GeForce MX 420 cards
(I run dual monitors)
Drives: OS and Applications, 80Gig, 7200 RPM
Data: 120 Gig, 7200 RPM
Page File: C: Drive (Same as OS) - 2 Gig.
I run a pretty clean system. I am a graphics designer so I
make sure that there are no unnecessary programs at start-
up except anti virus, firewall, and PDA synch. I also
defrag all hard drives every couple of days and keep OS
updated. AV updates definitions daily and scans every
week. The system is clean of viruses, spyware, highjack
tools, etc.
My problem is that my system bogs down all the time. I
have to restart sometimes twice and three times a day
because my computer becomes SO SLOOOW. Yes, I run intense
applications (like Photoshop and Illustrator) with
relatively large files (average 50 megs). But, I think
that with 1 Gig of RAM I should have plenty.
I have tried changing the Paging file to the drive where
the applications reside. That was a disaster. It made
everything run even slower!
In my frustration I have been thinking of upgrading to XP-
Pro to see if that helps. Not sure why it would, but I'm
out of ideas! If anyone has any suggestions as to why my
computer bogs down so much, they are definitely welcome!
Thanks in advance
Jose
