Has anyone ever used the "compress" feature on your pst files both "outlook"
and "archive"? If so, what did it do, was it hard to retrieve them after the
process, etc.

thanks
Jason

Do you mean compact (to remove dead space) or NTFS compression?

actually i meant to use the term "compact".
Outlook/File/DataManagement/Settings, etc. My archive file is beginning to
grow and i've always wondered what the "compact" feature would do the all the
sent and deleted emails and other items that are in the archive?

"Compact" removes "whitespace", that empty space within the PST file that
remains after you delete an item. Since archive PSTs are generally add-only
(i.e., you keep adding messages to them and rarely go back and delete
messages from them), there will likely be very little, if any whitespace in
them, so compaction won't have much effect.
