Hi all,

I will need to make a component of MSDE for my XPe image at some point in
the near future. I've read
in one of the threads in the NG archive that Sean Liming eMVP had a go but
abandoned the idea due to
security and service issues. What does this mean? Is it so difficult to
create a component for this, will the normal method of using
regsnap/inctrl5 depends etc not work Are there any licensing issues on top
to be aware of.

Regards
ms

ms,

If you are not planing on useing cloning of your image, you are good to create MSDE component with toolslike RegSnap/Inctrl5.
In fact, that has been already done.

ms,

I can't help you much with cloning MSDE as I didn't test it there.
You probably want to read those threads where folks mentioned the issues with computer name needs to be consistent across the MSDE
install. (usually with cloning you want to generate a different unique computer name)

I can only recommend you to give it a try.

PS. Personally I do believe that that MSDE cloning problem is fixed but I don't have much time now to play with it or test it.
PPS. We didn't get any defect reports about our MSDE component so far.
