When I restarted my computer this morning, Windows Mail looked completely
different. There was a group called "Quick Views"; there were "folders"
specific to each of my multiple email addresses. I had "personal folders",
which still appear there, but I can't see any of the emails in them. I don't
see the "top-level" toolbar - File, Edit, View, Tools, etc. So, I can't get
into "Tools / Accounts", as an example. Now, when I click Send/Receive,
instaed of seeing the progress of the email downloads showing in a popup in
the middle of the screen (which is what I'm used to), I see at the bottom
right of the screen, the "downloading" process happening, bur I can't see how
many messages got downloaded from each of my multiple email address
"accounts".

I'm sure there is much more different, but I'm hoping somebody can tell me
how to revert to the way Windows Mail looked as of last night. It was bad
enough having to change to Windows Mail from Outlook Express, when buying
this new computer that had Vista. But right now, I'm worried about possibly
having lost downloaded email. Things just need to get back to the way they
were last night. Help!

This sounds exactly like the layout of Windows Live Mail Beta. You sure you
haven't downloaded this and forgot about it.

Rob,

Thanks for trying. Anyway, if I actually downloaded "Windows Live Beta", it
had to be by accident. I did , just last night, try to download eBay Website
Payments, which is supposed to let me add payPal buttons to email. I am just
trying to learn how best to use ebay and PayPal. Is it possible that the
downloading of that "application" involved downloading the Beta version of
Windows Mail, overlaying my original version of Windows Mail? If that's what
ultimately happened, without me realizing it, how can I recert back to the
original version of Windows Mail.

Thanks.

Hi Thomas,

I too have recently installed WLM Beta and it works along side Windows Mail.
The desktop icon was replaced with WLM icon but the program is still in the
"All Programs" list on the start menu and the application still works as
normal. Have a look for it.

Hi, Rob,

The soultion was simple. However WLM downloaded, it became my "default"
email program. I just went back into Control Panel, and made Windows Mail my
default again. Then the normal look and feel of WM and all of my emails and
folders appeared, so problem solved.

There is still one "annoyance". It seems that KB933928 constantly installs
upon "updates". That is the one that screws up being able to key in a
"contact name" into the "To" field of new emails. Is there a way that will
"permanently" prevent update KB933928 from installing, every time updates are
searched for? Thanks.

When the update is offered again, right click on it and select "Hide". It will
not be offered again.
