Is Complete Reinstall Necessary to Elim Dual OS

Installed XP Professional on machine with ME, upgrade from
98. XP set up would not allow upgrade option because of
apparent missing file. Since I had backed up all needed
files clicked ok to new installation & formated NTSF.

Hard drive was previously formated with C: & D: volumes.
XP installed to D: Leaving ME OS on C:

Any way to uninstall ME only and reformat without complete
reinstall?
