Complete PC Backup to External HD Crashes

I recently purchased a 1TB USB external drive (Western Digital, for those
keeping score at home) and am attempting to do a complete system backup using
Microsoft's backup utility on Windows Vista. The backup process starts and
gets almost finished, and then the computer crashes - "blue screen of death".

I've attempted this twice with the same result. I have looked on your
website for updated drivers but have found none, nor have any come up using
Windows Update.

For what it's worth, the file backup process worked flawlessly. It's just
the entire system/computer backup that crashed. I receive no error message;
it just crashes.

Western Digital's customer service was worthless (they said: "WD do not
provide any updates on Mircosoft Windows and WD unable to provide any
addition troubleshooting for third party software. You may need to contact
Mircosoft for further troubleshooting.")

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Ed:

This will be the best $36 you ever spend:

NewEgg for $36, Free Shipping:

I highly recommend this software. It does everything Complete PC Backup is
'supposed' to do and much more. There is a free trial available for
download. Give it a spin before you buy it.
