I ran the compatibility scan for vista home and am told the nvdia pro64 will
not play with vista home. Does this mean that my desktop will not fuction
with vista? I am thinking that is probaly the case. do i need to upgrade the
video card? thank you.

Thats about right.
I suspect the upgrade adviser also advises an the minimum specification, and
as such there may be other hw items that would require upgrading, in order
to have a meaningful Vista experience, eg 2gb ram, vid card 256mb minimum
You should also check that the applications you run are Vista capable, not
all are, and any other HW, eg printers / scanners etc
