Can software be compatible with WXP Home if it's listed for Windows 2000 and up but doesn't state XP? Or does any software that's compatible with WXP need to be specifically stated that way? Does it hurt my computer if I end up running programs on it that aren't compatible? Thanks.

Some software than does not state it's compatibility with XP is for the
simple reason that XP was not designed when it was printed. Win 95 and 98
software working properly on XP is hit and miss. System files on XP are
protected on XP and if the older software is incompatible it will give you a
error message (most of the time). Jym

So can one assume that W 2000 and up would be compatible with XP, or is it just hit or miss with individual software? I download a lot of freeware off the net.

I would think so. Win 2000 and XP are very similar. Win 95 and 98 are dos
based. There lies the problem Jym
