When I activate Giant Antispyware and scan, there seems
to be a conflict with Norton Antivirus Autoprotect during
shutdown. I get a runtime error notice that includes a
reference to a symantec directory and a delayed shutdown
accompanied by a warning sound. The next startup is
normal.

I would appreciate comments on this.

Can you define what versions of each you are running?

Which Symantec product?

I can't recall seeing this one before. Any more detail about the error
message?
