Am trying to export Outlook xp ver. 2002 files to outlook vista on a new
computer but vista dosen't recognize the older ver. of outlook. Is this a
compatibility problem or am i doing something wrong.

You're doing something wrong. You never export Outlook data to transfer it.
There is no such thing as "outlook vista." Clarify what you are trying to
do.
