When I click on 640x480 resolution and 256 colors, the
screen seems to change to that and then change right back
and then start the program. This happens with my old
windows sierra games.

You need to click on the link you use to launch the game, then select
Properties, followed by going to the Compatibility tab. Set it in there,
Run in 256 colors and Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution, then OK your way
out. Each game must be done individually.

I do all that and the screen flickers, turns to 256
colors and then the game runs in a window in the middle
of the screen. I also click Windows 95
compatibility...could that be a problem?

What games is it you're having trouble with?
