I'm interested in purchasing desktop recording software and I keep finding
compatiblity issues with the products and 2005 Media Center Edtion. Most of
the hardware, connected via PCI, USB or IEEE, or the recording software is
compatible with XP Home Edition. I'm guessing Media Center is basically the
same as Home Edition with a few bells and whistles. Is it possible to disable
the media center component?

Why?

If something is compatible with Windows XP, it is usually all editions
(Windows MCE is Windows Professional with more things and a few removed -
making it look like it came from Windows XP Home roots, but it did not.)

In other words - if it says it will work with Windows XP Home Edition - the
extra management and networking features in Windows XP Professional and the
extra media features of Windows MCE are unlikely to cause trouble.
