Are there accurate data on the 'Net comparing ink coverage and use costs
of Epson printers?

I'm trying to compare ink costs among Epson printers: the 7600, 2400 and
3800 printers in particular.

I calculated the ink costs of those three printers by using ratios
(comparing the cost per cartridge and the number of milliliters of ink
per cartridge on the one side of the equation, to deduce on the other
side of the equation how much one milliliter of ink would cost for each
printer.

But I'm not sure if my calculations are accurate, because I think that
the amount of ink used to cover an area of paper may vary, depending on
the settings used.

Epson doesn't have unit ink costs and ink coverage costs on its Web sites.

The 2880 replaced the 2400 and is basically a 13" version of the 3800.
The 3800 has much larger ink tanks so the cost per ml if far less so I
would think that the cost to print (if you print the same size paper)
would be cheaper. I think you can follow the same logic for the 7600 with
the exception that is costs much more in ink wasted when you switch from
glossy to matte.

(I use an Epson 4800 exclusively)

Your statement, how much ink per print, is what I have determined is
the best available information. I have found that an 8-1/2 X 11 print
uses approximately 1ml per print of ink. This may vary particularly
for B&W text and drawings but for the usual picture printing 1ml per
print is good planning. As to which color you use the most the results
are along the same line. I use the magentas and the blacks the most
with LT LT Black and LT Magenta the most. Probably 2:1 over the other
colors.

So for my work I base my ink costs on 1ml per 8-1/2 X 11 print and for
other sizes I think in terms of multiples of 8-1/2 X 11. (8X)

Also since my 4800 will only cover the sheet to 8-1/2 X 10.25 I am now
printing my images so they can be framed in the very available 8 X 10
frame with no loss of desireable image after trimming and framing.
Users will have to trim some for this size unless they use a custom
frame size. Not very cost effective.

I also selected the 4800 because the ink is in larger containers and
less expensive, and the printer was 3X as fast. And now the 4880 is
even faster.
