I am trying to open Access97 files on another PC/server
from Compaq evo T20 thin clients running XPembedded.
I can't open and run access on the server- get - not
licenced.
Tried to load Office97pro onto the thin client -
- by running setup.exe from the PCs CD, via network, or
- loading the setup files onto the thin client-
gets "setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application"
Is there another version of access97 for embedded- or
Can I run access on the thin client from the PC/server by
some other means. I looked at "Citrix Program neighborhood"
but it's expensive.

John,
The Office application suite is not supported on XP
Embedded (for licensing and other reasons). If you need
to open Access files, your best bet would be to use a
Terminal Service connection like Microsoft's Remote
Desktop Protocol or Citrix. You would simply use one of
these applications to connect to a system running a full-
blown OS that has Office installed and view the files
from there.
For other office documents, MS has readers (word,
excel, etc.) that will run on XP Embedded. As far as I
know, there's no access reader, but I'm sure one could be
written (if it hasn't already).

HTH,
Tony

Thanks for the help Tony - it clarifies the situation.
Where can I find out the ins and outs of Microsoft's
Remote Desktop Protocol?
