Hello, I have a HP 315 digital camera. it came with a 8MB
compact Flash card. I bought me a 128 MB flash card and it
worked fine with my camera but my computer wouldn't
reconize the new card as it said no pictures found or
something to that effect. I contacted HP online and they
told me that Windows XP wouldn't reconize any card greater
then 32MB. So I reformatted my hard drive and went back to
windows 98 using the restore disk tht came with my HP
computer and lo and behold my new flash card works fine. I
prefer using Windows XP, but if I have to I will stay with
98 unless someone has any suggestions... Please email me
at (E-Mail Removed) thanks Don Burkett

That is a falsehood. My PC recognizes 64 MB, 256 MB. HP must be doing
something wrong in formatting the card. Sad to hear you gave up XP over that
98 is vastly inferior.

I think you went way too far by reinstalling Win98...
If nothing else you could have downloaded your
images with a USB Memory Card Reader.

Just wondering...did you try installing WinXP SP1a
before reinstalling Win98?

For this camera HP has no driver to read a card higher than 32 MB. However,
they should have told you that all you need is to buy a card reader (about
$15.00), connect it to your USB port and it will read your 128 MB flash
card. This is terrible. No need to go back to 98.

I am using a 1 gig compact flash card and XP Home edition
has no problem displaying its contents. I either plug the
card in through a USB card reader or through the camera.
I open explored and the card shows as a removable drive.

There is some discussion of this at the HP forum. There seems to be a
bug in the photosmart software, or HP 315 firmware. Anyway the camera
won't read cards above 32 meg. And XP wants to reformat the card
while it is in the camera, making the card unworkable until you
reformat it again with the camera firmware.

See discussion at the HP forum:

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/Questio...9cd0f9,00.html

A poster there has written a software workaround that can be
downloaded at

http://www.suspekt.org/photosmart.html

but it's rather primitive. I have to reinstall his "fix" everytime I
want to download from my camera. And XP still does not see the camera
card as an external disk; I have to use the Photosmart software.

I think I will buy the card reader. Of maybe a 32 meg flash card

It is odd that HP doesnt just fix the problem. But maybe there are
not that many HP315 users.
