Why is it that whenever I use the CompactDatabase method (to do just that),
my databases are not compacted as much as they would be if I had used the
'Tools' menu's arcrane way of getting the same job done? Is there a known
reason? Either way, I usually do Repair Database first.

Access' compact probably knows how to rebuild the forms, reports,
and code modules, which apparently are crammed into one field in
a system table. CompactDatabase knows nothing about that stuff,
so it just copies it blindly, flotsam, jetsam, detritus, and all.
