Last month when changing from one e- mail address to another in Outlook a
pop-up appeared asking to "Compact Messages to provide additional disc space"
.. Did this comeabout as a result of an Outlook automatic update? How do I
delete this unwanted message that I "Cancel" between every address change?!

Are you sure you are talking about Outlook, part of MS Office, and not
Outlook EXPRESS?

Best to ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup, such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress.
