Compact flash cards not shown

I have an HP 315 digital camera and before I upgraded to SP2 it worked
fine. When I plugged in the camera to the computer the compact flash card
showed up in Explorer and I could transfer files to and from the card.

After SP2 the camera no longer shows up when plugged in. The software can
find the camera ok and transfer files FROM the card but I can't send files
TO the card because it doesn't show up in Windows.

I got a SanDisk card reader and I have the same problem. The card reader
does not show up in Windows. When I plug the card reader or the camera
into the computer it BOINGS and BOINGS when I unplug it also. So the
computer knows the device is being added or removed. In fact, if I plug
the card reader into a USB 1.1 port instead of USB 2.0 I get a message
telling me the device will work better if I plug it into USB 2.0.

I contacted Sandisk and they told me to set lastdrive to Z which I did but
it didn't help.

I need to have the cards show up in Explorer so I can download pictures,
massage them with various programs, then put them back on the memory card
and plug it into a big screen tv for presentations. Used to work fine.
SP2 killed it.

Is there a service that deals with removable mass storage devices ?

How can I fix this problem?

USB Hub Power Management - disable : Start/run, type DEVMGMT.MSC , then rightclick each USB Hub device, Properties, uncheck the box
on the Power Management tab.

Tried that. Saw it posted yesterday for a similar problem. No help. The
power light on the card reader is on. When I plug it in, the computer
beeps. If I unplug it ... the computer beeps. The card reader software can
find the reader and transfer files from it. But without showing up in
Windows I can't transfer files to it. Paint Shop Pro can not find it nor
can any other Windows program. Before SP2 everything was ok.

Accoring to SanDisk tech support it should show up in My Computer and
Explorer. Their only suggestion was to set lastdrive to Z. Did that ... no
help.

In Device Manager I am showing " Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device "

Also there is a category for Storage volumes that shows " Generic volume ".

Checked both of those and there is no user switch to turn them on or off
beyond the " use this device " which is set to use.

It < looks > like things should work but they don't.

It would not hurt anything to try this MS file to reset autoplay.
