Where is "compact all folders"?

I can't find the "compact all folders" menu command that was present in
Outlook Express. "Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance" has a setting
to "Compact the database on shutdown every" [setting] runs, but I don't see
how to invoke this when you want it done, other than changing [setting] to 1
and then changing back to 999.

That's the answer. 99 to 1 then turn back off.

An alternative to 999 is deselection.

I agree that "compact all folders" was not easy to find in Outlook Express,
but the logical thing to do would have been to put a "Compact now" button
into "Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance".

The default setting is 100.

You should compact regularly or you are heading for problems.
999 is too great a margin between maintenance of the data base IMHO.

All the guy is saying is he wants to be in control. Another option
is to uncheck the feature.

In past years I've been amazed by how many of my suggestions Microsoft has
implemented, including major ones. It takes more effort to make the system
work that well once the founders are out of the picture.

The logic is that most users don't want to be bothered by the
nitty-gritty machinery. They prefer to have compaction done
automatically without user intervention.
