comp wants to Safely Remove Hardware (printer)

my windows xp is somehow convinced that I want to remove
my usb printer (hp psc2110), and it tells me every single
time I turn it on that I can safely remove it and it has
a little icon in my taskbar all the time....well I DON'T
want to remove my printer, so how do I make this stop
