hi, my computer decides to turn itself on at 8am every
morning for no apparent reason, is this a software
problem or a hradware problem. can anyon help me stop
this happening.

If the computer is truly off, this has nothing to do with the
operating system or any other software, it is a BIOS setting.
Go to BIOS and look for something like "Power on ***"
Disable it.
Otherwise check your manual or contact the motherboard/computer
manufacturer.

Are you sure your computer is not merely in "sleep" mode when it starts,
apparently by itself. I have not come across a Bios setting that
includes such a wake-up call but this is not to say, this does not exist .

Then, is your computer a recent one or one of the older models where the
on-off button did cut the power? On a UPS ?

We need to know more to understand this "miracle".
