Hello I use X P home. I go to field, right click, go to
properties, screen saver, power, set as follows, turn off
monitor 15 min, turn off hard disks 20 min, sysyem standby
30 min, syster hybernates 45 min. all works well. but,
then about 1 -2 hrs later, the comp. is back on and the
monitor is lit up. Why does this happen? I shut the modem
off as well every nite. (if that makes a differance) I use
broadband cable. Also, are my setting OK? thanks

Don't know, but do you have any "wake on" for LAN or modem options on your
motherboars/bios? Any chance something is moving your mouse or hitting the
keyboard? Do you have any alarms set that might cause it to wake up. Is
there anything that might need internet access and is trying to call out,
like auto updates?

Maybe check your bios settings for power.

Norton trys to do something every 10 min. this was set
buy noton. Is this a cause? Dont understand the rest of
your answer. No one hits mouse or key board, and I might
add this does not allways happen hmmmmmmm
