The past two weeks my computer has been freezing up 2 or
3 times a day, but not while it's being used. If it sits
on for an hour without using it, it freezes up, and I
cannot even ctrl+alt+del to restart it.Anyone have any
ideas what is going on here?

I've been going through the same thing for about a week now. I 'll be
interested to hear the answer to this myself. The computer sits @ 100%(busy)
with no applications /programs running. It's got to be a process or
processes running in the background that are causing it to freeze. I'm all
ears.

Usually this is due to a driver that is not entirely compatible with
standby. May want to check event viewer to see if it makes any mention of a
driver problem. Start> Run> type "eventvwr.msc" without the quotes and
click OK. Look in both the System and Application branches. Double click on
items marked with yellow or red that have date/time stamps that coincide
with the times the computer went into standby or that you tried to resume.

I don't have mine set to standby, when I did, it wouldn't
wake up, so I don't use it. It'll be just doing nothing,
everything is closed out, and the thing freezes up, and I
have to manually turn it on and off. It's crazy.

Without error messages, it's hard to give advice. So below is some random
thoughts:
It could be a hardware problem. Flakey RAM, for example, is notorious for
random freezes. There are software testers that you can run to do a cursory
evaluation of the installed RAM.

Also... Just for grins. Go into Power Options and check what the settings
are at. Even when using "Always On," the default settings include some time
outs. Try changing those to Never. You could pursue this farther by going
into properties for various devices in Device Manager. If a Power
Management tab is available, uncheck boxes next to "Allow the computer to
turn off this device to save power" if they are present.

And, if you have a screensaver setup, try a more simple one to see if that
helps to eliminate the problem. Try: Windows XP, Blank or even None.

May want to take a look in the Application and System branches of Event
Viewer to see if there are any error messages noted. You might pick up a
clue about the underlying problem from that information.
