Some of you may aware that BOClean was bought by Comodo.
BOClean is an anti-malware program that was developed and
maintained by Kevin McAleavey and his wife Nancy. BOClean
is an effective program, it's not a scanner, it only does memory
resident protection, and does it very well.
Kevin has not abandoned his baby, he now works for Comodo and
continues his work with BOClean. For the first time ever, Comodo
has offered BOClean for free.
From what I have read, some folks don't like Comodo's AV but many
seem to like their firewall. Kevin has stated publicly that he will be the
one who continues the development of BOClean. Kevin and his wife
Nancy are good people, they had a very loyal customer base. I believe
Kevin's almost one man show got to be too much, especially with the
explosion of malware over the last few years. Now, he'll have more
resources and more help to ensure BOClean stays an effective anti-trojan.
In my opinion, BOClean is almost as good as Magnus Mischel's TrojanHunter.
Of course, others will swear BOClean is better.

I have BOClean installed on three WinXP machines and three Vista machines,
each of those computers also have NOD32 installed. I have not encountered
any problems with the BOClean installs nor any conflicts with NOD32.

Comodo also offers other free software. A firewall, an AV that is in beta, and
other stuff. I have not tried any of those, so I can't offer any advice. I don't
think the firewall or the AV are for Vista. But, BOClean works great on Vista,
more than likely, you won't even notice it doing anything... unless it gets a critter.

I just installed "Comodo BOClean Anti-Malware" (BOClean's new name) on

Update," but I learned from their forum that this is a known problem,
will be fixed, and doesn't much matter, anyway, since BOClean actually
automatically updates itself just fine. Other than that, I would only
like to add that 1) When installing BOClean on Vista, it is important to
initiate the process by right-clicking the installation file and
choosing "Run as Administrator," and 2) BOClean is not (at least, yet)
ready for 64-bit Vista.

Your last two points are important, especially
selecting "Run as Administrator" on the setup file.
Unless, you have UAC turned off.

"Check for Update" works fine here, David. In fact,
on two Vista computers and one XP, it works. I'll
have to boot back to the others and see if it works
there, too. Like you said, the automatic updates work
fine, so no biggie.

Anyway, I'm happy for Kevin and Nancy. The fine product
Kevin created, now has the chance to help protect a lot of users.

I've been using BOC for years and just upgraded from XP to Vista. I
went to Comodo's site and the system requirements for BOC 4.23 are
Windows 2003 and XP but not for Vista. Is is OK to load 4.23 for Vista?

Yes. Just be sure to right click the setup file and
select "Run as Administrator".

Opps. There I went, being wrong again. But at least this time I get to
correct myself:

I just read an email exchange with Kevin in which he says that BOClean
is actually ready for x64 (both XP and Vista) in all important aspects.
The GUI and other minor aspects remain 32-bit for the time being, but
according to Kevin BOClean *will* run properly on a 64-bit system.
