This sounds as if he was following the steps in the troubleshooting
guide at the link I gave in my previous post
(
http://tinyurl.com/y9rhu2s). You can try them yourself. There are a
couple of points where the troubleshooter suggests restarting your
computer. Following the procedure will thus be easier if you have
another computer connected to the Internet; otherwise, bookmark the
troubleshooter so you can return to it after you reboot.
If you get to the point where the guide suggests doing a System Restore
or a "PC Restore," you can try using System Restore to a date before the
problem started, but
- do NOT use System Restore if you've installed any software since the
date of the restore point you want to use
- do NOT use System Restore to go back more than a week or so.
If System Restore doesn't work, do NOT do what Dell describes as a "PC
Restore." Instead, uninstall and reinstall the printer driver and other
software as I earlier described
(
http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article_One.htm).
Note: if you get to the "Clear the print queue" step and "Cancel all
documents" does not work (there appear to be some documents stuck in the
queue), then
Open a Command Prompt window and type
net stop spooler [Enter]
cd C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS
[delete any files in that folder]
net start spooler [Enter]
Exit
