I have a document which is shared, but I need to be able to edit/modify
comments. I can't seem to do this without removing sharing, which defeats
the purpose of sharing for tracking purposes. Please advise how I can edit
comments and still preserve tracking data?

I think it's not the sharing that's the problem. I think it's the way you
protected the worksheet--and to remove the protection of the worksheet, you have
to unshare the workbook.

But if you protect the worksheet, but allow the user to Edit Objects (on that
Tools|Protection|Protect sheet dialog), then you can add/edit/delete
comments--as well as shapes and other objects.

Thanks Dave,

I will check protection and, if necessary, remove sharing to revise
protection.

Tried changing the permissions to allow editing of objects. Also set up a
Range of cells containing comments which may be edited w/o password
entry...no avail. Ready for another suggestion.

I'd try it again. It worked for me in xl2003 and earlier versions, too.
