Hi All,
Sorry if this is a silly question. I am trying to fix a problem
with my brother in laws laptop at the moment, the issue is that it logs him
and logs him out straight away. He runs xp.

I have had a look online and am trying to do the following:

Go to command prompt
at the command prompt go to

C:/windows/system32

4. next type:

copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe

5. exit and reboot normally. You should now be able to logon. But you're not
done yet!

6. run regedit

7. find the Userinit key in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

8. modify the entry:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsaupdater.exe

so that it reads:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\userinit.exe

I have managed to get comand prompt to show C:\> at the flashing cursor but
when i type widows or windows\system32 i get a message saying 'this is not
recognised as an internal or eternal command.

Can anyone help me with this? As far as i was aware i just had to type
windows, this would then show C:windows, then i would type system 32 and it
would show C:\windows\system32 but it wont.

Any help would be great, thank in advance.

Colin

Use the CD command to change directories.

We don't know how you got to the C:> prompt, did you get there via the
Recovery Console?

Hi Colin
When you get to the `C:\>
You type DIR
This will give you a directory of where you are
in the file structure.
Now you use CD command to move through directories.

So, CD windows
CD system32 etc.

You cannot log on to Windows XP after you remove Wsaupdater.exe
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/892893

Follow the steps in the KB article.
Wsaupdater.exe is from BlazeFind; BlazeFind is a browser helper object
"for" Internet Explorer that redirects and changes the Internet Explorer
settings.
