Here's what I'd suggest. Call Brother back, reopen the ticket and tell them
that Microsoft needs to know *EXACTLY* what they are doing. Also ask to be
escalated as you have heard other people having this issue and one of them
said that Brother is, in fact, working on a fix.
As for backing out SP3, unless it's in Add/Remove Programs, nope.
