Command & Conquer Generals problems

Evertime I try to load it, it gets half way loaded and
then reboots to desktop with a "serious error" message.
EA sports knows about the problem and when you call the
message says to update the DirectX to 8.1 or higher.
Mine is 9.0. The game is sluggish at the start screen.
I have Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge and they work fine
and are not on the XP compatibility list. I think my
computer meets the minimum requirements. Other people
have gotten around this somehow. I'm not the most
computer literate person. Can anyone help?

Thank you

Thanks for the post! I have played quite a bit of Generals and would like to
help you get yours working correctly. First of all, lets figure out what
hardware you are using. A good way to do that is by running dxdiag.exe. To
do this click start>run>type "dxdiag" and hit enter. After it loads up it
will give you some info on your system. Click on the display tab. Run the
D3D tests and make sure all of them are working. The display tab will tell
you your video card and driver version. I suggest getting the latest video
driver for you card. You can get that from the manufacturer's web site.

After that post back and let me know what hardware you are using, video
card, sound card, processor, amount of RAM.

I also suggest making sure you have the latest patch for this game.

Thanks,

Kevin
