Upon a cold boot or a restart and in Excel, the side tilt wheel will not
scroll left or right. ( Enable horizontal scrolling with the tilt wheel is
checked.) However if I open the mouse icon in Control Panel and
immediately click OK without doing anything else scrolling happens.

I have uninstalled the mouse and rebooted. The system found the mouse but
the same condition happens -- no horizontal scrolling until I open and close
Mouse in the Control Panel.

Can someone help me out with this problem?

I found that I had unchecked the pont32.exe entry in msconfig's startup
list. I checked it and now everything behaves just fine.

Have you seen that there is a newer version of the Intellipoint software on
the Microsoft website. Mine came with version 5.3 and 6.1 is posted for
download.
