After examining my msi file with ORCA, although the COMCAT version called for in the msi is for the latest version of COMCAT, my installer is using an earlier version. 5.0.2195.1 is the (4k) version registered in my system32 directory, however, there are instances of an earlier COMCAT scattered about on my machine - 4.71.1460.1. I'm not sure why the older versions are there but hesitate to remove them because I have no idea what they are doing there. In the past, I have noticed it is possible to replace the older MDAC_TYP versions in my VB6 directory and have noted that the P&D Wizard picks up the newer versions without a hitch so technically, if my machine's platform is 5, then I should be able to replace all of the COMCAT's with the version 5 and continue from there. However, it seems to me that COMCAT is a member of a group of distributables that need to be distributed as a group so if I replace one, I must replace ALL of the group members located on the machine with the later version. This seems to complicated. Is there a simpler solution? Meanwhile, ORCA should NEVER have found the older version for distribution. I suspect it may be an anomaly in the COMCAT that forces the reference based on the MDAC distribution, the MSDE distribution, and finally the Crystal 9 distribution which affects this. Anyone have suggestions
