I have comcast at home with 2 computers linked to the modem with a router.
It seems like every time I get on the internet after 5 min or so the signal
disconnects, then reconnects again... anyone else having this issue? The
router is a dlink, and the modem is a motorola surfboard. It is not a
wireless network.

Try connecting just one computer directly to the modem. I have the same
problem with my dlink router. Never figured out the problem with the
router, but without it the computer will stay connected for days. Installed
a second nic in the machine connected to the modem and enabled internet
connection sharing and now all computers in the house can access the
internet. I guess I should contact dlink and figure out the problem with
the router, but for now it's working fine.
