Hi Everybody,
I recently saw a 4-part microsoft article (Keywords: kbhowto KB894947 ) on
combining the data from a SP1 windows install disc with info from a SP2
update disc and intergrating them both into a "xpcd" file on a harddrive.
Then burning the intergrated file ( "xpcd" ) to a CD that is made bootable.
If anyone is familar with this article and/or procedure, I'm uncertain
about making the CD bootable. This is covered in part 4 of the article. I
followed the procedure and extracted a "image 1.bin" file from my windows sp1
disc. But the article's instruction on what to do with the image1.bin file
was unclear to me.
So I burned the image1.bin file on the CD with the "xpcd" file. My
question is, was that the correct action for making the disc bootable?
If anyone is familar with this procedure, please give me some feedback.
Thanks!

The process is called slipstreaming. Autostreamer makes the process much
easier. Here are a few links with different techniques on how to do this.

Here's a far simpler way to create an installation CD that
includes Service Pack 2.

Create a Slip Stream version of Windows XP
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htm

Here are some of the files you'll need to obtain in order to
follow this procedure:

Windows XP Service Pack 2 Network Installation Package for IT
Professionals and Developers
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Order Windows XP Service Pack 2 on CD
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...s/default.mspx

AutoStreamer 1.0.33
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1092632287/1

CDBurner XPPro

Here are some other resources you might want to take a look at:

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

How can I slipstream service packs into the Windows 2000,
Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 media?
http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2000_...pstreaming.htm

Good luck

You might find a utility such as Autostreamer (to name 1) more simple

To answer your question - while you can burn the bootable image file to the
CD - you also want to make a bootbale CD using that image and your burning
application... Whatever it may be. It should have an option to make a
bootable CD from image and you would use that image to make the CD bootable.

In addition to the other fine responses about slipstreaming....
You could integrate most of the post-sp2 pacthes as well....

Here they are:

Forget all that. Download SP2 from Microsoft and use Slipstreamer to do all
the rest for you.
