COM PORT IS LOCKED UP

My Com port is locked up and will not contact to an
attached devices, if I use a different PC to connect to
these devices the console works properly. I tried
removing the entry for Com1 inthe device manager, but
that doesn't seem to resolve the issue, Windows never
detects the com port it just automatically installs. Any
idea how to reinstall or reintitialize the com port
without reloading Windows XP?? Any help is appreciated
