Com Port help please

On my laptop when i had win98 my com port1 worked fine
but since i upgraded to xp it doesn't. I tried to update
the drivers that didnt work. I deleted the adapters and
restarted to let windows xp find it again but nothing
seems to work. What should I do anyone?
