I have win xp media center edition 2002 with service pack 1 installed.
When I install service pack 2 it kills my winsock (or so the HP phone tech
tells me) and I am not able to use Outlook Ex or any browser. This is not a
firewall problem. If I type an IP address into a browser I am able to access
sights on the
internet. I have searchged google and read Microsoft pages till I've gone
blind but there is no strait forward easy solution offered by anyone.

This page, like the rest offers me no help other than an opportunity to
correspond in this venue. I looked for links or usenet names to address this
problem to. A search in the Microsoft search window of, "Microsoft usent
groups" was a dead end. I find it extremely difficult to find an obvious
arena to seek help on this matter. So here I am.

can you help me. i have the service pack 2 on my computerand i have problems.
{for example} i try to use recordnow on my computer and it says that some
components are missing. i try to repair or reinstall, but it says that i need
the service pack 2 installation cds to continue. what do i do, write back
soon.

I have upgraded to sp2 before but had to restore my laptop to factory
settings. When trying to to upgraded to service pack two from the update
website. I got an error in the middle of the install and said that it was not
installed correctly. It ask to reboot and that was the end of my computer!!!
not it will get to the windows splash screen and start to load then restart
itself. Tried the repair recovery to replace the boot files, but still
nothing. Wondered if you can point me in any directions before doing another
restore.

I have Windows XP Pro 2002 Service pack 2 or 3 on my computer now. I am
starting online classes and it requires 2003 or newer. How do I upgrade
without buying a whole new version, as I just purchased this version, based
on someone's suggestion. Any suggestions. Thanks. Lori Aylwin

I suspect that the requirement is for *Office* 2003 or newer, not the
operating system. Look carefully at the requirements again. Microsoft
Office is an office suite that has never been part of Windows. You have to
purchase it. After you look over your class requirements again and know
what Office programs you need, you can purchase the right version of
Office. For instance, a very cost-effective version is Office 2007 (the
current version) Home & Student Edition. It costs around $84 for a 3-seat
license from NewEgg.com. That version doesn't include Outlook, so that's
why I say you need to make sure what your online course requirements are.
