I am entering dates every week into a spreadsheet. How can I
automatically colour a date on week 1 as red and week 2 as green for
all alternate weeks?

You can use Conditional Formatting to do this. See
http://www.cpearson.com/excel/banding.aspx for instructions and sample
formulas. This goes beyond simple alternating rows -- you can create
bands of multiple rows with alternating colors.

the colour coding should not be based on rows. it should be based on
the date entered.

eg. if date entered was within week1 of month1 it should be green, if
date entered was within week3 of month4, it should be yellow,
etc..etc..

any idea?
