Colour banding on UMAX Astra

Scanner is a UMAX Astra 1200S. Has given sterling service for many
years. Suddenly colour scans are useless - have 3-4 "rainbow" bands
across ("horizontally") a typical page, almost like a Moire effect. B&W
appears OK, however. Using latest (albeit old) Vistascan software with
no recent changes to computer or its software. I suspect the hardware
is at the end of its life, but don't know enough about these things to
judge. Don't want to spend hours finding out what the problem is or
lots of money on mending the old thing.
As far as I know, it hasn't been knocked and it certainly hasn't been
taken apart. I have disconnected and reconnected cables and stopped and
started both it and host computer several times - all to no effect.
TIA
Bill

Scanners do dye, sounds like your scanning element has failed. RIP -
On the bright side decent quality scanners are far less expensive than
they were when you bought the ASTRA. Have a Vista S12 was a great
scanner for the time but is blown away by an Epson V700.

Thanks. I will give it a decent burial. My last SCSI device too. I'll
have to use this new-fangled USB business! Humf! :-)

You will be glad you went to USB, especially if you have USB 2.0.

Everything is using USB now, new printers no longer support the parallel
port.
