I created a spreadsheet that used a color scheme that was copied from
another spreadsheet that I had downloaded from a microsoft website. I
recently opened that spreadsheet while I had a new one open and it
converted the colors in the new one to be the same. I did not want
this color scheme for my new spreadsheet and I was unable to reset the
colors to the default.

So basically what is happening is that if I open this spreadsheet with
a custum color scheme, while another spreadsheet is open, it converts
all the color schemes to the custom one. If the spreadsheets are then
saved, they are stuck with that color scheme. I am not able to reset
the colors using tools>options>color tab>Reset. It doesn't do
anything.

I am extremely frustrated and by looking at similar posts, it doesn't
that there is much knowledge about this subject. I would appreciate
any help I can get.

Have you checked if any macros are changeing the colour scheme?

Perhaps you can use the 'Colour Palette Tool' at
http://www.edferrero.com/charting.aspx to better manage your colour schemes.

I don't use macros in this spreadsheet.

This is a spreadsheet that I developed for company wide use, and I dont
want it screw up other peoples spreadsheet colors. It's like this one
spreadsheet is "infecting" any other spreadsheet that happens to open
along with it. It is very strange. Had I know this would have been
such a problem, I would have just stuck with the default colors. I
can't even return it to the default colors now.

Hi Jacob,

You can use a custom colour palette in Excel, and new workbooks will open
with the default colours. You should also be able to reset the colour
palette. Therefore something is changeing the default Excel behaviour.

Other things you can check;

- Press alt-F11 to show the VBA Editor. The left-hand pane should show all
the projects loaded in Excel (if you cant see this press Ctrl-R to show the
Project Explorer). The list of projects should include your currently opened
workbooks and any add-ins that you are running. Check that the list does not
include an add-in that you may not have loaded yourself.

- Have a look in the XLSTART folder for any add-ins or workbooks that load
whenever Excel is started. The folder is usually found at C:\Documents and
Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

The XLSTART folder was empty and there were no unusual add-ins running.
I imprted the color scheme by having the spreadsheet open at the same
time as another one that I downloaded from microsoft, and then simply
copying the colors from the microsoft sheet. I used the
tools->options->color tab->Copy colors from drop-down list. Now I am
stuck with that color scheme. I suppose I could manually change each
color, but I am more concerned with how it seems to be affecting other
spreadsheets.

Ok, and you can't reset the palette using tools>options>color tab>Reset.

I am out of ideas - don't know what could be causing this behaviour, but it
is not standard Excel behaviour.

Only suggestion I have is to download my 'Colour Palette Tool' at
http://www.edferrero.com/charting.aspx and see if the reset button on that
dialog will work for you.

Thanks for your help. It's quite annoying, but it's not a major
problem. I will try the Color Palette tool.
