Every time I shut down my PC the color quality resets to lowest (8 bit). How
do I permanently reset it to maximum (32 bit)? I'm operating windows xp on a
Dell Dimension 4700. I can reset manually, but that's a pain to do every
time I reboot.

Rusty, try reinstalling your graphics driver. It should be on a
Software CD that came with the Dell. Or, you can download it from Dell's
website. The 4700 has a integrated graphics chip built into the Motherboard.
