I have a Lexmark Z52 which has served me well. I installed a add-on
multiport USB connector. I hooked the printer to it and rebooted. My
WinXP Pro system found the printer and re-installed it. The color on
output is muted. The red looks a brownish red, the gold looks brown,
yellow is the only color that look correct.

But Wait... I've changed cartridges, I deleted that printer and
re-connected it through lpt1 printer port, tried switching cartridges
again but no joy - same problem. I've aligned and cleaned print
nozzles. I've bought new color and photo cartridges and at this point
have spent more money on them than I did on the printer.

I've allowed the color management to automatically select a profile, and
I've manually selected LEXZ52 profile. Same output.

Any Ideas?

Have you run the nozzle check from the printer driver?

Yes, and I've deleted and re-downloaded and reinstalled the driver from
Lexmark. I just can't figure out why it used to work and now it
doesn't. The printer works as it always has - the color is just wrong.
It looks like not enough yellow is getting put in the mix

Does this happen on photo quality paper and what is the quality like on plain
paper. Some printers need matching paper, some don't seem to care much.
I suggest you try a paper that Lexmark recommend as a test, if that works then
you could try different brands.
If the nozzle check is OK then it is very unlikely that the printer has failed
although it is remotely possible that the colour mixing process is broken, as I
say this is very unlikely.
